Our Vision

The American Clematis Society (ACS) is a society of clematis enthusiasts. It was founded in order to share in the enjoyment of clematis as well as to promote them. ACS is a non-profit plant society founded in 1996 for the purpose of encouraging and promoting the development and improvement of clematis and to collect, record and share information concerning clematis.

Our Present Goals

  • Encourage interest in Americans about growing clematis.
  • Promote recording data about clematis in the United States.
  • Increase availability of the number of both clematis species and hybrids to American gardeners.
  • Host public shows and plantings.
  • Provide means for Americans to exchange information.

Our Future Goals

  • Promote research on the correct USDA growing zones for clematis in the United States.
  • Promote scientific research for such troublesome problems such as Wilt (stem rot).
  • Encourage the hybridization of American clematis cultivars.
  • Further clematis collections throughout the United States.
