When I was helping to designing my website I had a major decision to make when choosing which four clematis I would like to feature on the header (the upper portion of each page on the website). Since there are hundreds of stunning clematis to select from, how could I possibly pick only four? For me it was a monumental event and felt as though I was being asked to choose my favorite child. And like any good parent would, I did not want to play favorites. So, after careful reflection and weighing all my options (uniqueness, dependability, performance, flowering ability, etc.), I decided to narrow it down and feature four American clematis. My choices were: Clematis crispa, Clematis ‘Carnaby’, Clematis ‘Betty Corning’ and Clematis ‘Tie Dye’. I can honestly say Clematis crispa and Clematis ‘Tie Dye’ would definitely be two of the clematis that I could not live without (oops… is the Clematis Queen playing favorites?). Of course, I’m also captivated with Clematis ‘Carnaby’ and Clematis ‘Betty Corning’, but not quite to the same degree.
So, if you are looking for some suitable clematis for your garden, I’m confident that if you were to grow any or all of these four lovely American beauties, you too would be totally captivated with them as I am. Let’s not forget to mention that you would be adding a little Americana to your garden as well.
