Your clematis should be in full-fledged growing mode right now, so watch out because this vining and twining at top speed means they can take off to areas that you may never have intended or even wanted (like your neighbor’s yard) them to visit. I highly recommended going out every other day to tend to their growing needs, but if that is not possible (I admit even I cannot live up to this royal standard), just go out when you can. But be forewarned that if you are not on top of things you may soon be duly rewarded with a big wad of clematis stems. The only thing worse than one out of control clematis is two, three or more! I know this from first-hand experience. It really isn’t fun trying to separate them. Yuck! So, take my advice and don’t do as I sometimes inadvertently do by procrastinating too long. Get out there a.s.a.p. and reclaim and retie any of your wayward clematis early and all throughout their growing season.
